Was there an “historical Muhammad” in Ethiopia?

New findings — based on ancient inscriptions, a re-examination of Islamic traditions, and historical sources — point to a 6th-century figure named “MHMD” in Ethiopia and Arabia. This individual would have been the bishop Gerentrios, nicknamed the “Praised One” (i.e., MHMD), and later remembered in Islamic tradition as Muḥammad ibn Khuzāʿī.
